This is a moderate grade trip.  No kayak experience is necessary; participants must be comfortable in water and in good enough shape for 4 to 6 hours of daily kayaking, and some easy hiking.

We welcome you to kayak with us and explore the Barkley Sound, Deer Group Islands which is very close to the Broken Group Islands.  The Deer Group is a destination rivaling the Broken Group for its selection of campsites and spectacular shorelines. This linear archipelago provides an authentic west coast adventure, with plenty of wildlife including whales, seals, sea lions, otters, deer, eagles and a variety of shorebirds. This unforgettable experience offers a rich contrast between the rugged outer coast islands and the calm serene coves pf the inner islands.

From the onset of our trip you will be well informed on how to use and care for the equipment.  We teach the fundamentals of ocean kayaking and we travel as a group staying close together.  Our equipment is top of the line quality.  We try to organize our trips to satisfy both active adventurers and those looking for a relaxing vacation.  We hope you’ll agree we’ve found the right balance.  Our itinerary is adjusted according to weather conditions and to suit the needs of the group.

The day before your tour we would like you to meet us at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet.  Come and meet your guides, we will give you dry bags to put your clothes in and offer packing advice.  Our office is open from 7am – 7pm.

Day one, we meet at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet.  We travel together by boat to the Deer Group Islands, which is where we launch our kayaks for the trip.  Here we unload our equipment and guide you through packing the kayaks.  After equipment orientation, lessons, and a safety talk, we begin paddling through the islands.  Our arrival time at camp depends on the physical ability of the group and weather conditions.

Sometimes we keep our camp in one location for the duration of the trip and do day-trips from the site, other times we may choose to move the camp during the trip.

On the final day of the trip, after packing up camp, we will enjoy the day exploring and stopping for lunch on one of the islands Captain Gary and his boat will transfer the group back to our Ucluelet base for 5pm arrival.
